Dear Rotarians,

One year ago, you provided a family in the Horn of Africa with shelter and life-saving equipment at their greatest moment of need. Thank you.

With your help, ShelterBox responded to what many reports stated was the worst drought in 60 years in the Horn of Africa, which sparked a severe food crisis. Families were not only fleeing drought and subsequent famine, but also the increasingly unstable situation in Somalia. ShelterBox provided assistance to more than 8,500 refugee families in Kenya and Ethiopia.

We thought you would enjoy hearing from ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) members Rebecca Ridgeway and Ingrid Criddle as they reflect on their time in Kenya and Ethiopia delivering the aid you supported:

Every year, ShelterBox provides support to families around the world who have survived the tragedy of an earthquake, tsunami or other disaster. Working with supporters like you, we are able to provide tents, cookware, blankets, stoves, water purifiers—all the equipment necessary to allow families to begin rebuilding their lives. From Haiti to Japan, from the U.S. to the Horn of Africa, our green box has come to represent hope.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide shelter, warmth and dignity to families affected by the drought, conflict and famine in the Horn of Africa.
