Potential local applicants for this wonderful scholarship opportunity might be encouraged to know that our area is already home to a recent and very successful Rotary Global Grant Scholar. In 2017, Bishop Union High School (BUHS) graduate Christine McKee received a Global Grant Scholarship from the Rotary Club of Bishop Sunrise, Rotary District 5190, and the Rotary Foundation to pursue a Master’s Degree in Community Development at the Geneva Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland. The Institute specializes in the study of the major global, international, and transnational challenges facing the contemporary world.
While at BUHS, Christine was an active member of the Rotary Interact program and a received a local Rotary Scholarship to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a B.A. in Landscape Architecture with a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. Her education led her to volunteering with the United States Peace Corps in Guatemala.

Students applying for Rotary’s Global Grant Scholarship must have excelled in academics and/or a vocation and also demonstrated excellent leadership skills and a strong commitment to community service and making positive sustainable changes in the world. Other qualifications and requirements are spelled out in the scholarship’s application materials. The Bishop Sunrise Rotary Club would be delighted to once again see a local student apply for and earn this important scholarship. Applications are due to the Rotary District 5190 by April 30, 2021. The District will hold interviews in May. For more information, visit the Rotary District 5190 page at: https://tinyurl.com/1xakmf3a
